Tulay-Caraga Goes Global

Today marks the new venture of Team Tulay-Caraga ... GOING GLOBAL in 2012 and ONWARDS ... thru the Telecentre.org portal.

All Tulay Program and team initiatives (trainings, events, missions and business ventures) will be made known to the global telecentre community through this link.

Joining the global portal is one way of bringing the Tulay Program graduates in Caraga Region to the global digital community so that they could digitally interact with other community technology learning centers (telecentres) around the globe, where they could gather and share tips and best practices on the wise use of technology and other endless possibilities offered by ICT.

Joining telecentre.org is also my way of thanking the Tulay-Caraga team for their cooperation and support that made all Tulay-Caraga initiatives truly successful.

To God be the glory!

AN AWARD TO REMEMBER

I just received a plaque today as an Awardee of the 2011 Global Search for 100 Outstanding Telecenter Women Managers.

I was really surprised because I was not aware of the global nomination.

A career award is a flattering gift for anybody. Being an IT Instructor, in-charge of the implementation of the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program, is a tough job and I knew from the start that I needed to do an extra mile if I want to achieve the best result possible, without expecting something in return other than my salary. (You can ask any Tulay Program Instructor that, and you will surely get the same answer.)

But an award solidifies that others are noticing my hard work aside from my graduates. 'Twas really a feather in my cap. I can't help bragging about it because I know deep down that I deserved it.

I am offering this award to all of you, my dear Tulay-Caraga graduates, for your cooperation in all Tulay Program activities; to the Officers (both Un Pont Caraga and the Tulay sa OFWs Coop) for the unending support, especially to Mam Babes Moran and Mam Daisy Jomoc who are always there when I needed help to further the Tulay Program services through the community extensions; to OWWA-Caraga family for the help in the implementation of the Tulay Program; to Ma'am Toots Ople and Sir Fort Jose for being my inspiration in helping the OFWs in one way or another; to Ms. Melody Concon (National Computer Center) for the nomination; to my family and friends for the love & understanding, and most especially to my God for the strength.

Salamat, salamat sa lahat lahat. Dahil sa inyo, na-achieve ko ito.

Cheers!!!! God bless us all!

10 Secrets to Success

March is here! Graduation is just around the corner. People, both students and parents, are now busy preparing for this day... a day that marks the end of a new phase in one's life and the beginning of another phase yet to come.

11th Graduation Ceremony
(Batch November 2011 to February 2012)
OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program

As March 8 marks the end of the daily computer training through the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program for the February 2012 trainees, it also marks the beginning of a new venture, and hopefully, a better perspective and possible opportunities.

Whatever we do, we always wanted to succeed. Below are ten (10) secrets to success.

1. How You Think is Everything.

Always be positive. Think Success, not Failure. Beware of a negative environment.

This trait has to be one of the most important in the entire list. Your belief that you can accomplish your goals has to be unwavering. The moment you say to yourself “I can’t…”, then you won’t. I was always given the advice “never say I can’t” and I’d like to strike those words from the dictionary.

I’ve found that from time-to-time my attitude waivers. A mentor of mine once said “it’s ok to visit pity city, but you can’t stay and there comes a time when you need to leave”. Positive things happen to positive people.

2. Decide upon Your True Dreams and Goals: Write down your specific goals and develop a plan to reach them.

Write down my dreams and goals? Develop a plan to reach them? You mean like a project plan? Yes, that’s exactly what this means. You may have heard the old adage: A New Years resolution that isn’t written down is just a dream, and dreams are not goals.

Goals are those concrete, measurable stepping stones of achievement that track your progress towards your dreams. My goal is to start a second career as a freelance writer – what are your goals?

3. Take Action. Goals are nothing without action.

Be like Nike and “Just do it”. I took action by reaching out and started writing. Every day I try to take some action towards my goals. It may be small, but it’s still an action. Have you taken action towards your goals?

4. Never Stop Learning: Go back to school or read books. Get training & acquire skills.

Becoming a life long learner would benefit us all and is something we should instill in our kids. It’s funny that once you’re out of school you realize how enjoyable learning can be. What have you learned today?

5. Be Persistent and Work Hard: Success is a marathon, not a sprint. Never give up.

I think every story of success I read entails long hard hours of work. There is no getting around this and there is no free lunch. But, if you’re working towards something that you’re passionate about, something you love – then is it really work?

6. Learn to Analyze Details: Get all the facts, all the input. Learn from your mistakes.

I think you have to strike a balance between getting all the facts and making a decision with incomplete data – both are traits of successful people. Spend time gathering details, but don’t catch ‘analysis paralysis’.

7. Focus Your Time And Money: Don’t let other people or things distract you.

Remain laser focused on your goals and surround yourself with positive people that believe in you. Don’t be distracted by the naysayer’s or tasks that are not helping you achieve your goals.

8. Don’t Be Afraid To Innovate: Be different. Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity.

Follow through on that break-out idea you have. Ask yourself “What would I do if I wasn’t afraid?”

9. Deal And Communicate With People Effectively: No person is an island. Learn to understand and motivate others.

Successful people develop and nurture a network and they only do that by treating people openly, fairly and many times firmly. There is nothing wrong about being firm – just don’t cross the a-hole line. How do you deal with people?

10. Be Honest And Dependable: Take responsibility, otherwise numbers 1 – 9 won’t matter.

MISSION 2012 VIDEO COMPILATION

The following is the video compilations of the recently concluded Un Pont Caraga Flood Mission. The first video focuses on the Flood Mission activities ... from the mission call until the transport and turn-over of the relief goods to Kaabag Foundation in Cagayan de Oro City. The second video presents the side trips to wonderful places the volunteers passed along the way before and after the mission.

Part 2: The Side Dish Before & After the Mission

UN PONT CARAGA AIDS SENDONG VICTIMS

UN PONT CARAGA STARTED 2012 WITH A SUCCESSFUL MISSION.

After weeks of mission call, a number of urgent quick meetings, a series of unexpected frustrating arrangements with the vehicle to transport the relief goods to CDO, Un Pont Caraga, at last, was able to deliver the donations to the flood victims of Sendong on January 6, 2012.

The call for a Flood Mission to help Sendong flood victims in CDO and Iligan was started last December 20, 2012 in lieu of the planned Pamaskong Handog ng Un Pont Caraga for the less fortunate in Butuan City. Benifiting a minimum of 500 families, the relief goods were donations from Tulay-Caraga graduates, their families & friends, and from the OFW friends of DFJomoc abroad. The relief goods were transported and formally turned over to Kaabag Foundation of Cagayan de Oro City, whom the later will be the one to repack and distribute the goods to the flood victims of Brgy. Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro City.

The mission was truly fulfilling. It's better to give than to receive.

In behalf of Un Pont Caraga (OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Alumni Club) and the Tulay Program in Caraga Region, I am extending my grateful thanks to all the kind-hearted donors, the ever active officers, the very supportive volunteers, the Kaabag Foundation, and to all who helped through prayers and in one way or another. Most of all, thank you God for giving us the ways and means to achieve the mission. To God be the glory!

Mabuhay ang Team Tulay-Caraga! Mabuhay ang Un Pont Caraga! Congratulations for a job will done!

TOGETHER WE CAN TRULY MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Welcome 2012

Wishing you all the blessings of the New Year...the warmth of home, the love of family and the company of good friends.  Happy New Year to all!
